CrossFit looks really difficult and the group classes are intimidating. Should I do something else before joining so I may be better prepared for CrossFit?
Unless you're doing CrossFit, nothing you do will prepare you for it. The great thing is that you will be scaled when you start. That means, all the skilled based movements we utilize will be scaled (in weight, intensity, etc) that best fits your skill set and ability in the beginning.
How long will it take to see results?
Results for many refer to aesthetics. Losing weight and looking good. All the physical changes that people are striving for can only be done with nutrition. Exercise is important but nutrition is 99% of the game. Eating a balanced paleolithic diet will ensure those results along with countless other benefits.
How often should I attend classes and should I do anything else outside of CrossFit?
A minimum of 3 times a week is great for anyone starting CrossFit. We advocate sports. Learn and play new sports all the time. Do what you current enjoy doing. Run, swim, bike, play tennis, etc. CrossFit will make you better at all those things.
What's the first step in starting with the program?
The first step is to graduate from our On Ramp Course which is a 4 day course where you will learn the theory and technical aspects of all 9 fundamental movements that we use in CrossFit along with numerous other supplemental movements. The course concludes on the fourth day with a nutrition lecture which again is 99% of this program in terms of reaching your goals. The idea of the course is to educate you on proper technique and for us to create a forum for you to ask questions and honestly understand the reason behind why we focus so much on form and technique. At CrossFit Threshold we are solely concerned about making sure you are moving safely and efficiently. We are not here to break records or impress anyone. We are here to learn and gradually grow and progress.
When will the soreness go away?
This is a great question. The answer is unfortunately , "never". We want you to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. This may seem a been intense but the fact of the matter is this. In any situation in life, sink or swim situations can ultimately be the most rewarding. Even if you fail flat on your face, you're still moving forward. We want you to consistently doubt yourself because in the end you'll realize that you always end up completing something that you didn't think you'd be able to finish. It's these mental hurdles that we put up in front of you on a daily basis. Conquering these hurdles day in and day out, leads you down the path of success. This success will filters into all facets of your life. We know this because we've seen this with ourselves as well as hundreds of athletes that frequent our affiliate. We want to create an environment that sets you up for success. You will always be surrounded by encouraging people who only want to see you succeed. Strength comes in numbers and it's a strong tribe that weathers the storm.
